I’ll go through RTK lesson 14 today and review lessons 1-13 (or whatever Anki tells me to do). That’s all, I decided to drop everything else I was studying so far until I finish RTK.

Hmmm… I counting reading through the forums on this site as semi-studying!

Today I’m reviewing Season One (as I had a bit of a break from it) and writing out all the 1-2 stroke radicals and early kanji into a handy pocket notebook so I can carry it with me for train journey etc.

I’m loving learning Japanese but sometimes feel as though I’m going to be a complete beginner forever…. does it get any better?

I still feel like a beginner but not a complete beginner. It does get better! I get impatient with how slow my progress seems to be but at least we’re making progress, right? :)

Yeah, we are making progress but wish it was at a faster rate than a snail’s pace :( Actually, I read in a running mag the other day that if you have something to learn/revise (language mp3s, for example) listen to it while you’re exercising. You remember it better cos your brain is more alert. I listened to a Pimsleur this morning while out on a run but got a few funny looks off people cos I was muttering to myself *sign* have to remember to use my ‘inside voice’ when doing this!!!

Sorry… tentative link… snail’s pace~ running… have a tendance to ramble at times! ^-^

I haven’t started using an ipod while running but Pimsleur is an excellent idea. I’ll have to load that up on my ipod and try it out. Sorry you were getting funny looks!

Today – Finished up with the na-adjectives. I probably over-studied it but I wanted to make sure I understood the concept completely. I finished learning the vocab via Anki, read the Textfugu lesson, read the na-adjective lesson on TaeKim’s, and listened to a jpod101 lesson that covered na-adjectives.

Tomorrow – Working on the i-adjectives!

Oh, winterpromise31, another benefit of the Ultimate Verbs list: it really helps get your head around the whole transitive/intransitive thing. Seeing so many examples of each helps understand the concept but it also helps you remember certain “rules” when it comes to pairs. While there are no hard and fast rules, you begin to notice several different patterns emerging which is great for remembering which is which (while it may be riddled with exceptions, it’s handy for the ones that DO fit the bill). For example (transitive/intransitive): 始める/始まる, 当てる/当たる, 見つける/見つかる (there aren’t *many* of these “rules”, but that seems to be the most prevailant one).

I’ve finally kicked myself back into gear when it comes to studying. Over the past few days I’ve done like a million missed Anki reviews. I did at least 2,000+ on Saturday, and the average few hundred more everyday since. All this while my computer has had a dead hardrive — a testament to how amazing iPods are. So, while I can’t get Japanese podcasts on my iPod without my computer, I still have my music . . . and Tae Kim, Anki, an English-Japanese dictionary, Japanese-Japanese dictionary, 2 kanji games and 2 other kanji apps. I feel very set.

I kind of want to do more Anki reviews right now. :(

Attempting to read my novel thats in Japanese that I got in the mail today. It’s so much harder than reading a magazine and I think its like reading a newspaper but in a story telling tone like a novel. I barely understand anything but for some reason, its kinda fun.

Thanks Michael! I do plan on starting on those Ultimate lists soon. I’m glad you’re really seeing the benefits.

Swoosherz – 2,000 reviews in one day?? That is intense! I think the most I’ve done is 450 or so. Good luck with all of your studying!

Today I reviewed tons of cards in Anki – RTK, some random vocab, na-adjectives, and i-adjectives. Then I started going through the i-adjective conjugation lesson on Textfugu. I’m not sure if I’ll spend one more day or two on i-adjectives. I want to make sure my understanding of each lesson is solid before moving on to the next but I also don’t want to drag my feet.

Here’s to a ton studying! Let’s all make leaps and bounds in our Japanese language understanding this week. :D

Abandoning Japanese studying for a whole week isn’t a very good habit to get into. That is the ONLY bad thing about School holidays – no Japanese tutoring! Haha.

Okay, so I have exactly one week to go now.

I’m going to insert all of last weeks words into Anki today and do my usual reviewing and writing down the words (with the kanji if I’ve been taught) until next Wednesday.

Today I worked on the i-adjectives. Reviewed everything in Anki. Read the TextFugu lesson. Read the Tae-Kim lesson. Listened to a jpod101 podcast. All on i-adjectives. All I have left is TextFugu’s final i-adjective worksheet.

Next on the list – “I want…!”

just starting to translate sentences that was recommended by AJATT.
im supposed to do 10,000 over time…but ill never do that.
just made check marks going up to 500 in Evernote.
along with each japanese core2000 lesson

This isn’t really a studying thing but…
I was at a small Japanese restaurant for lunch today and saw a sign　by the door that said 『お忘れ物はございませんか？』- while I didn’t know *exactly* how that would translate to English, I knew it was something like “Have you remembered to take everything with you (as you’re leaving)?”.

I was pleased :P

Also, the bathroom there had walls that were covered in a big collage of magazine articles, adverts, pictures, wall charts, etc. all in Japanese – looked awesome (to me at least) and I took some pics of it (which I’ll upload if I can find my damn phone cable). I mean, the walls in the main part of the restaurant have tons of Japanese language posters ‘n’ stuff up too, but the ones in the bathroom were more a big mish-mash/collage-type thing that looked kinda cool :)

The restaurant is like 5 minutes or so walk from where I’ll be living for uni next year, so I’m gonna ask if they need more waiting staff (especially since the Edinburgh Festival is coming up soon). My guess is that they’ll say no, since it’s a fairly small place, but it can’t hurt to try, right? :)

Also, I finished Ultimate Verbs last night :D Still gotta review them, but they have all… uh… “passed through my brain” at least ;) Once today’s reviews are out of the way, it’s onto the first Ultimate Nouns list – gonna blitz through it, since I already know about 70% of them :P Will still be useful for the ones I don’t know. The ones I *do* know and have cards for already will be updated to new cards with more categorising info and whatnot :)

Well I’m reviewing all lists (All of season 1 up to season 2′s verbs) and preparing for na-adjectives.

Just wondering what does RTK stand for and what podcasts do you think I should listen to/simple audio conversations to practice my listening?
