When is it prompt to interpret this as “one person” and when “alone” ? Is it just a contextual thing or not ?

Hey! Lip them? Lip them? What?

Aye, it’s all in the context.

    Yes what Joel said.

    Random examples:

    彼は一人じゃありませんでした。He was not alone.

    一人しか見えませんでした。I only saw one person.
