    In season six, one of the examples for the use of だった is:

    西　じゃなかった　だ　と　思った

    I don’t understand why there is both じゃなかった and だ after 西, though. Shouldn’t the sentence just be one or the other? When I asked a fluent Japanese speaker, they seemed to think it was two separate sentences like:

    西じゃなかった。だと思った。

    Meaning “No, It’s not the West. Don’t you think so?”

    Yeah, that seems like it’s a typo. 西じゃなかったと思った = “I thought ‘It wasn’t the west’ “.
