    I learned Katakana and Hiragana with Youtube Videos (User: HIDETCHI) and he explained quite well. That was before I learned about Tofugu and such but what I learned from him doesn’t match the content here. I’m talking about the sounds “tu” and “du”. I learned that トゥ and ドゥ are the Katakana versions of the aforementioned sounds (“tu” and “du”).

    In Katakana Rules (Season 3, Chapter 2, Page 3) and the various cheat sheets it is mentioned as “to” and “do” multiple times so it can’t be a simple typo.

    Did I learn it wrong before? I’m pretty sure TF is wrong here. The missing sounds that are tried to replicate are the “tu” and “du” sounds that don’t exist in normal Japanese (instead there are “tsu” and “dsu” (ツ and ヅ)). As for the sounds “to” and “do” we don’t need special rules because we already have the Katakana ト and ド.

    So what do I miss?

    以上です。

    PS If this is already posted, I apologize. I used the search but I think it is not working correctly.

    トゥ (tu) and ドゥ (du) are different from ツ (tsu) and ヅ (dsu)
    I’m not quite sure what you’re asking really.

    You will probably NEVER see トゥ and ドゥ. Even ヅ for that matter is incredibly rare. づ pops up in some cases, but not in katakana form so often.

    Although keep in mind that typing them will be quite different

    トゥ = toxu
    ドゥ = doxu
    ツ = tu / tsu
    ヅ = du

    Maybe you should follow the link I posted to get my point.

    EDIT:

    Tu/Du
    Tu/Du 2

    Yeah, it has been brought up before. But yeah, the search function is broken. We decided that Koichi’s off his rocker in this regard. Again.

    Yeah, which is funny as he does actually pronounce them correctly in the Anki decks so…
