I can say much as I just got back after 2 years of “life” I guess you could say.

I still see a few people from that time, is it more active at certain times? Most topics and replies tend to be weeks apart.

The forums were nearly dead for a while, but they’ve recently been picking up again with an influx of people buying into the new TextFugu sale.

I personally come through the forums like a wave, replying to everything once every two weeks.

Not from the desk of Eihiko. Eihiko's boss took his desk away from him.

Well, that’s what happens when a website gets abandoned by it’s creators.

I think it is for a forum a bit difficult to exist in these times where everyone is on Facebook. We had to close our board because of that. I’m really glad that there are people like you who give their best to keep this board alive :)
    Thank you ^^

@Eihiko, every two weeks? Whoa, can’t really blame you though, have to let the topics grow.

I still see a few things being posted often but it’s almost a waste to check so often.

@Ryuukun, hmm, I checked the updates blog after reading that and saw nothing since November, that’s kind of depressing really.

With the above case being possible, is there anywhere else I should also study along side my lessons here to prepare for completing the current seasons?

There are a number of new people here who haven’t realised that TextFugu sucks yet, and then there are people like Joel and I who are still around after so long but we don’t know why. But yeah, it’s pretty dead. It’s never been *that* lively, though I guess it was more so a few years ago when TF first started.

I do remember you Mister, that avatar is unmistakable along with the name ;)

No I see that, someone asked Koichi on the Textfugu twitter about more updates on the “update” and he said he wasn’t ready to update on the update yet. Are there any other good resources I should prepare for after Season 8?

I plan to continue with guidetojapanese.org. It’s more detailed and advanced than textfugu but not nearly as pedagogical. But it’s free and I’m sure it’ll move me a lot.

I’ve tried to revive TF too but it becomes a little boring when it feels like we are so few who try, which is why I haven’t looked at the forum for a couple of days now.

    Hi,

to be honest, I don’t come everyday on textfugu cause I don’t study japanese everyday.
On the contrary, Wanikani is something you have to do everyday (for the reviews) and that kinda explains why the forums there are more “active”.

Plus, I don’t know about you but the UI here at Textfugu just sucks (something about colours right?), I don’t feel like browsing the site (except for the lessons of course lol) so I kinda dish the forums because of that.

I really really think Textfugu and Wanikani should be united at least on the forum part but although Koichi and Viet mostly listen to what users say, they tend to be super-deaf on some ideas..
I know they have a lot going on but still, TF really feel like it’s been abandoned and that “super update” they promised months ago is not an excuse for the state in which TF is right now.

That said, WK forums used to be much more active too. It’s still super active compared to TF though.

On a more general note, I feel like they should really put some money in communication because one little message every once in a while on the forums maybe was the solution back when both WK and TF community was less numerous but now it’s not anymore. We don’t need a commit log, we need to know you didn’t forget us lol.

    I love those words.
The WK isn’t as active as it was once. Perhaps because Koichi and Viet stopped posting on the forum. I don’t know if they even read it anymore. Somehow I just became happy when I saw Koichi himself respond to something in the forums. Somehow it made me feel very welcome, when he showed he cared about us. I imagine that could be a reason why the forum was more alive. It was probably the same here on TF but he stopped responding on this forum before I came here.

That said, that’s totally understandable that in the begining you’re more active on the forums as the creators you wanna get feedback on what you’re doing. Then I guess you get more and more workload and tend to stay away from the forums.
I know that having bad feedback/opinion is also something that can make you feel reluctant to chat with the users. Cause really, the bigger the community, the more angry people you have even when there’s obviously nothing to complain about..
That feeling must be hard to cope and I hope they still got the “thing” to push WK&TF higher and higher.

I don’t know why but I tend to kill the chats. Oftentimes my post is the last and no one ever posts anything after that again. So the forum is probably dead because I am active. I’m so sorry.

    Not this time, Cimmik…

The forums are pretty boring now. Almost all the topics are about errors in the site or introductions, so it’s just the same thing over and over. Not that I want to discourage people from introducing themselves, but it gets old, especially when you see people excited to have signed up to something that I know ist worth their time.

Even the topics that creep up that are more novel, tend to be related to the language in only a peripheral way; that is, they have to do with Japanese music, or about anki, but not about the language itself.

I’m still around. I tend to only comment on questions, though – I’m terrible at replying to introduction threads, which seems to be the majority of what we’re getting at the moment. My thoughts are rather similar to kyle’s comments, actually (though I wouldn’t say TextFugu isn’t worth people’s time).

True. Introductions are difficult to answer as it is difficult to find something that isn’t just ようこそ. But I think a nice ようこそ is better than nothing. I imagine it can feel a little blue if no one replies.
