こんにちは! Hi all, Calvin here. It has been a while since I've been active on Textfugu...I think it's been nearly 7 years? A lot has changed for me. I never went on that exchange trip to Japan, and I ended up doing a complete 180-degree flip on my university studies; from music to computer science. I've since graduated from university and have a comfortable job as a salary man with a big tech multinational. It was the multinational aspect of my current employer that sparked the dormant flame of my love for Japan, its culture and its language. While in my younger days loving Japan was all about video games, anime, and manga. I guess you could have called me an Otaku, although I never had the money to build a massive collection of media. Today I still love video games, and enjoy manga and anime from time to time, but mainly my focus has shifted to studying Japanese history and modern culture. I enjoy using as many of my senses as possible to learn more about Japan; reading books on Japanese history, articles from the Japan Times, listening to music both traditional and modern, and most importantly cooking (because who doesn't love food?). While I've matured in some of my tastes, I'm still very much a child at heart, and coming home every day to study japanese gives me that childlike sense of wonder and discovery that helps keep the oppressive nature of salary-man life from weighing too heavily on my shoulders. I still hope to visit Japan one day, and the first step of that Journey for me is getting a good understanding of the language. I'm looking forward to sharing in this adventure and wonderful learning experience together with all of you Sincerely, Karu P.S. I've chosen Karu as a Japanese inspired nickname, as the best approximation for my full name カルビー (Karubin) brings to my mind things such as beans or wastebaskets, and I'd like to think I am neither...but who can say for certain.
