One Through Ten And Beyond
“Small is the number of people who see with their eyes and think with their minds.“ - Albert Einstein
The first step is to learn the numbers. It’s straight up vocab (ick), but you have to put in the effort here in order to get to the juicy stuff. The cool thing is that all you need to do is learn a certain number of numbers, then you’ll be able to do a lot with them. With that in mind, you’ll be learning the fewest numbers possible to get the greatest amount of benefit. Here’s what you’ll be learning before you move on to the next page:
- Numbers 1 through 10
- The number “One hundred”
- The number “One thousand”
- The number “Ten thousand”
There’s a few more things you could know, but chances are these thirteen words (i.e. thirteen numbers) will get you 95% of the way, if not further. In order to study these thirteen words, I have a list you can study from. Now, I’m doing one thing a little differently. I don’t want you to learn these in order. When you learn numbers in order, you have to remember them in order too. So, if you wanted to remember “seven” you’d have to start at one and count all the way up to seven just so you can remember that one number. That is a bit slow and useless. Instead, you’ll be learning all of these out of order, like real vocab. That way, you’ll be able to recall these numbers more easily in the long run, even if it takes a little more time to learn them (because you aren’t learning them in order, as a set).
One last thing to note about these study lists. A few numbers have different ways of saying them. Some have two totally different ways to say them. Some have only slightly different ways to say them. When learning the numbers, you’ll have to learn both versions of the numbers that have multiple versions. Download this list and go through it once to learn all the main numbers that you need to get to a bajillion (or, at least, an unnecessarily high number)
Import this list to your “TextFugu Vocab” deck and study through a session before moving on. Hopefully you’ll get some of these words if you’re all caught up.
When you’re all done, it’s time to practice a little bit. After that, we’ll learn how to combine these numbers (the numbers you now know) into bigger numbers, like eleven, twelve, and thirty three thousand four hundred twenty four.
