Self-Reflection
“There are two sides to every coin” - Proverb
The “Season 2” review isn’t about testing you. I’m hoping you’re enjoying the process and feeling motivated enough on your own to continually push yourself to get better and better and better. This “review” is more about looking back, figuring out what works (and doesn’t work) for you, and building on that. I’m more concerned with how you feel than what you know (though I imagine you know quite a bit). If you feel good and feel motivated and feel like you’re making progress… a lot of good things will happen. So let’s focus on that for a little bit.
So, riddle me this, Batman. How do you feel and where can you improve / focus?
What specifically did you have the most trouble with?
Try to think about what you had the most trouble with. This can be fairly broad, or be pretty specific. It all depends on you. What is this thing? Write it down. Now, look at it a lot closer. What specifically (within this problem) is giving you a hard time? Can you specify? What is it that causes this problem / trouble to arise? If it’s the material, shoot me an email, maybe you’ll help someone else (or yourself) because I’ll be able to make TextFugu better (thanks to you!). Or, perhaps, it’s something with your study habits… or maybe you need to study something differently? Whatever it is, zero in on the actual problem, and figure out how you can fix it. Take that first step towards fixing it right now, even before moving on to the next question.
What are you particularly proud of?
What gives you the best feeling so far? Was it how you fought through tough kanji learning? Was it a specific epiphany you had at some point? Jot down the thing that makes you most proud. Why does it make you proud? What did you do to get there? If you can figure out what it is that’s giving you this good feeling, then you can start replicating it everywhere else. If possible, take this “proud” thing and apply it to the thing that’s giving you the most trouble. Does that help?
How are your study habits?
Did you stick with it? Did you keep with a schedule? Did you create a no-distractions “study-zone.” This is a good opportunity to figure out what fell apart and fix it. If you want to, try something new. Doing different things can freshen things up.
After you’ve gone through and answered the questions (and taken some action on them) move on to the next page. You’re almost to Season 3!
