Why You Want To Get Out Of The Dip
“Persistent people are able to visualize the idea of light at the end of the tunnel when others can’t see it.” - Seth Godin
Let’s take another look at that “Dip” picture from page one of this chapter.

The y-axis represents “results.” A big part of this is how you feel. If you’re getting good results, you feel good (and you want to study more Japanese). Helping people achieve results, a little bit at a time (but at a constant rate) is one of the big goals of TextFugu. I think results are really, really important.
That being said, when you’re in “The Dip,” results are harder to find. You don’t feel as good about things. However, the more you study, and the better you get at Japanese (while you’re in the dip), the more results you’ll start seeing. Soon, you’ll be back to where you were in your adrenaline filled “beginner” period. Here’s the best part, though… it gets better. If you keep putting more effort into it, you’ll achieve more results and have a better feeling than you ever could have before. The better you get at something, the more rewarding it will be to work on it.
So, for a little bit of suffering you can have a whole lot of results.
