My name is Joey! I am learning Japanese for a few reasons, such as… Well, let me give you a little background information about myself first! haha >_< I live on the east coast of the United States in New England, I have just recently turned 18, I love cars, and I am of the male gender. Is that enough background info? No you say!! EHHHH! Fine! One more thing. :/ My favorite genre of anime/manga is… *drum-roll* romance/comedy! There is probably a reason why this is and I think I know what… But, I’ll tell you later!

Where was I? Ahh yes! Why am I learning Japanese? It all started when I was a wee little lad, before having any memories of why I have always loved China! haha sucker punch! That’s right I said China! Do I know why, No! I just have, as long as I can remember. How does this relate to me learning Japanese… I don’t know o_O… JUST KIDDING! Teehee got you! Sorry ごめんなさい! It relates for the simple reason of: My mother telling me China is dangerous and communistic and OOOH this and AHHH that and you should go to Japan instead! I said, “MAH! I don’t care! I can handle it! What is Japan?” at least that’s what I think happened (I was maybe like 8 and I knew everything there was to know when I was like 5! So I was pretty confident)! Anyways, time went on, until about eighth grade.

In eighth grade I was in my school library and I stumbled upon a magical book called a MANGA! The manga was D.N. Angel a romance/comedy *hint* hint*. I was hooked after the first book! I then continued to finish the manga and anime version of the series (I hadn’t heard of anime either prior to this event)… Ever Since I have loved manga and anime of all sorts!

This caused me to dive deep into the culture of the magical Land of The Rising Sun! After this I dropped China (not really just moved on) and picked up Japan! I still love China and its culture, but, I fell in Love with Japan! To tie the knot here and the relationship I have with Japan ;) I will tell you exactly why I am learning Japanese (if you haven’t already guessed). So then, I am learning Japanese for a few reasons, such as: #1. I love Japan! Culture, lifestyle, food, you name it I will probably sort of kind of like it… #2. I want to live in Japan and be able to speak to the people there in their native language! Why? Well, reason #1 haha! #3 it is my dream! It has been since I picked up that manga in eighth grade!

I plan on conquering this dream of mine by studying Japanese right here on TextFugu! Hence the lengthy hello… Also by going to college and getting my bachelor’s degree so I can teach English in Japan! That’s it.

I would love to hear from you guys and will be looking forward to it! I hope we can all be friends and help each other conquer our dreams and goals of learning Japanese!

P.S. I had way to much fun writing this… O_o

    Welcome to TF!

LOL, that’s one hell of a trip. You definitely have the passion part down pat. ^_^

It seems like you know quite a bit of Japanese already. As such I would suggest that you might want to skip the Kanji sections here on TextFugu and have a look at WaniKani instead. You can find a link to it on the dashboard. Koichi is behind that as well, and it was created from what he did with the Kanji here, but greatly expanded upon and improved.

Also check out this thread for some tips on organizing Anki 2 with the early chapters of TextFugu:

You can also use the following thread to track your progress and share your ideas/concerns when you finish a season (gain a level ^_^):
