missingno15, get in here and do your damn job! Alternatively, Michael (great name btw), you could check out the “learning through idols” thread.

haha, he won’t be here for atleast 24h I think :P He is busy atm – and for once actually isn’t at his computer :’(

While everyone is waiting for Missing to turn up and post recommendations for AKB(which I will second) you should all watch NMB’s new PV

The drama “One Litre of Tears” is good. It is sad, so be warned, but the speaking is very clear and the plot is uncomplicated, easy t follow if you want to focus on the dialogue rather than the story. Aside from that, some of nana mizuki’s music is good. Utada Hikaru also. They both tend to be non-anime singers, if that means anything for you.

Can litre of tears be found on YouTube or is there another place I should look

I’m finally at the airport and waiting for my plane from Manila to Hong Kong to New York. Read this thread and nearly cried manly tears because I was 感動した which is pretty embarrassing at an airport. The computer I’m using is a terminal so no AKB stuffs just yet, you might see that in 3-16 hours from now.

In my honest opinion, its great that I have a better ability in catching the lyrics now if I just tried harder but while music is great and all, you should really listening that is somewhat similar to conversation. Of course, this does not mean that you should not listen to music, you should because it will keep you sane. For now, type in the username, “ymchanging” without the quotation marks and paste that into youtube and you should get all the radio shows that AKB appear in.

In my experience, all this practice will help to some degree but in the end, you gotta listen to Japanese people actually speaking to each other in real life.

Fortunately, I have a link for you all which has material (with script included) that is representative of legit Japanese conversation.

Sorry, I don’t have anything to post like the voiceblog site (thanks for the link, though!).

However, I do have some recommendations for passive learning listening.

If you enjoy hip-hop/rap, I recommend the incredibly talented Shing02. He performs in both Japanese and English, so he’s great for whatever you’re after.

    Some Japanese songs:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNgD1pjwP_Q – “Jukou”
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfDrVR4f6l4 – “Katsubou”
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MB7OAqJsJ8&feature=relmfu – “ODAKIAS”

    Some English songs:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4rxR1RM9po – I hope some of you recognize this one
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTpBHKzaUOE – “Miditation”

(If you enjoy him, you should probably check out the amazing producer Nujabes. Most of his stuff is in English or lacks lyrics, but it’s beautiful stuff.)

And I quite enjoy some songs from the band ROOKiEZ is PUNK’D. They are more punk-rockish, but I find them quite catchy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bVqeeXsFAw – “Complication” (used as an opening for Durarara!!)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FM405rHlNPo – “Zero Satisfaction”

Anyways, I hope someone might find those enjoyable/useful. Thanks for all the recommendations!

Nujabes made awesome music. Such a shame he’s no longer with us. RIP

I’ve heard http://rhinospike.com/1/ been mentioned before. I think Tsetycoon uses it.

    @ Michael
There’s links to the scripts on posts towards the bottom of the page. Doesn’t seem like the newer posts have the scripts provided.

    @ hey
It’s a pretty slick avatar. I thought it was time for a change and decided to go with some artwork from MGS 1.

Glad I could help, as I’m now a fan of Maaya Sakamoto. :)

I love Raven too. Here are a couple (if you haven’t got to them yet) that have similar slow/acoustic starts that ramp up a bit, also from Do as Infinity.

Tasogare, can’t really find on youtube.

Also, for anyone that likes stuff a bit heavier, but still melodic (later albums):
