Rather than send this straight to Koichi, I figured that I might get the input of some more seasoned learners to see if I’m right about a potential error that I’ve found on the S02L04 practice page.
In the kanji vocab for S02L04 (found in a zip file on this page), we have such phrases as “一人”, for which the numeral is said to be pronounced with the くん reading, namely “ひと”. However, on the practice page we have “七人” (second-last sentence in the first section), for which the numeral is pronounced in the sound-bite with the おん reading, namely “しち”. From what I understand, since we’re counting we’d use the くん reading as we did in the first example, meaning that it should be pronounced “なな”.
Is one of these an error, or is this an exception? Or am I simply getting mixed up here?

One person and two people are oddball pronunciations. ひとり and ふたり while the rest use にん

Also, I like your use of 「です」. Beginner-friendly. :)

August 18, 2012 at 11:24 pm #34638Koichi really needs to state that example is a counter as it’s confused so many people.
August 19, 2012 at 1:01 pm #34646I agree with kanjiman8. My friend also asked me the same thing a while back.
August 19, 2012 at 4:47 pm #34650Very well: I shall do that now. Thanks, friends.

Yeah, that sort of thing is on my ever growing list of things to clear up for next version. It’s neat because folks like you tell me about things that confuse them, and then I get to fix them, though there’s a lot sometimes :(
So be patient! Or I suppose we’re no longer affected by this particular problem since we’ve already learned the exception. :)
August 21, 2012 at 1:34 pm #34717No, someone will come along in a week and post exactly the same thread. =P

AnonymousYup Joel’s right, it’s just like the onyomi kunyomi question, asked billions of times even though its not hard AT ALL. :P
September 11, 2013 at 5:32 am #41873Say what? I was just going through the big list of *these* threads, finally on my way to email Koichi to tell him to get it fixed… and someone’s told him about it already? More than a year ago as well and still no fix? I think I’ll still say to him – the first guy to email him probably only told him what the problem was, not the true *extent* of it.
