Wow. I just finished Season Two. O_O

I really appreciate how the sound files in the lessons and Anki aren’t slowed down. It’s a challenge for me to say the sentences as quickly as the sound file says it, but keeping at it until I can has been helping my pronunciation more than I expected.

The kanji vocab has been difficult, mostly when it comes to readings that have nothing to do with either the おんよみ or the くんよみ (e.g. 大人). But I’ve been working really hard on it, and I get it almost all the time now.

I’m going to let everything I’ve learned in Season Two settle over the weekend through reviewing my decks on Anki and looking for these phrases, as well as practicing around the house. On Monday, I’ll start Season Three. *dances Snoopy happy dance*

(Edit: I also took the advice of those here and signed up for WaniKani’s free levels. So far, I’m enjoying it. Just thought y’all might like to know.)

Yeah I had a lot of problems with 大人 as well. >_<

Glad to hear you’re checking out WaniKani, it’s so much better than even TF for learning Kanji.

Just finished season one and onto season 2. One thing I’ve noticed is that for me it’s not about the speed of getting chapters done but reviewing everything till I know it. So it took me a week to get through this season.

Yeah, certainly don’t rush through it. If you continue before you’re comfortable with the current material, you’ll find things start to fall apart, you get frustrated, and likely quit.

Much better to take it slow and properly absorb the material, at least initially. Once you have a firm base, that’s the time to wild and try to absorb a mass amount of things as quickly as you can.

Yea, I’ve gone to fast for my own good before. I’ve pretty much have hiragana memorized which is a miracle by itself.

    hi everyone.
I have just finished season 4. I face problems recallingx hiragana vocab and pronouncing kanji vocab.
I just started using lang-8 and I got a few corrections. the problem is that those who correct explain in Japanese (with a lot of kanji) and I need to spend time to know what they say x_x

If you need explanations of their explanations you can always post them here. Just throw them up on this thread:

Could you elaborate on your problems with pronouncing Kanji vocab? Or do you mean knowing what the reading is?

exactly as u said. problems recalling the reading.
I get about 40 to 50 vocab everyday on anki and usually do about 10 mistakes.

Yeah you may want to hold off on continuing for a bit, until the current material sinks in properly.

10 out of 50 isn’t bad, but 10 out of 40 is a bit much.

You may want to start creating your own mnemonics for ones that are particularly troublesome.

    Hi everybody.

Just wanted to tell you that I took a week off learning Japanese. I just felt I needed the rest. I did keep using Anki though.

Today I started again by reviewing everything I learned. This took a lot of time. Vocab went fine, but I feel I need to review the grammar again (mostly from Season 5). I’m going to do that tomorrow and start with season 6 afterwards.

    Wish me luck.

Just finished Season 2. Pretty excited to see Season 3 gets into using adjectives and verbs. Things like じゃありません and でした and か are great and kept multiplying the types of sentences I could make, but then I tried to actually write something on lang-8 and couldn’t get much beyond “I am Josh. I am American.” Need some more meat for those sentence bones.

Yeah gotta love the early language robot talk.

Learning Japanese is kinda like Data trying to learn to be human. ^_^

Doubly appropriate that one of the reasons I convinced myself it was a good idea to buy the first season TNG Blu-ray was so I could check it out in Japanese. :)

currently at season 4 5-5, although i am so, so far behind on my vocabulary/kanji reviews. i must catch up! T_T i had huge assignment deadlines+exams for college the past month, so i dropped TF for awhile to finish it up and that was…the worst decision EVER. this time, i’m going to make a better schedule for college and for japanese so that i don’t have to sacrifice one for the other~!
i think i’ll be stuck in season 4 for awhile until i know all the kanji/vocab up to where i am. season 4 is really tough, i’ll definitely make sure i know everything before entering season 5!!
    i wouldn’t mind having a study buddy too ^^
