January 5, 2012 at 12:18 pm #23740Okay, good to know!
Also, I entered all the setup info you posted, but I couldn’t find a place to enter the port number.
I’ve never used TeamSpeak before so bear with me xDJanuary 5, 2012 at 12:46 pm #23743Where it asks for the server address enter both the ip and port number like this:
69.175.103.226:10076January 5, 2012 at 1:05 pm #23745Thank you so much!
January 6, 2012 at 9:35 am #23810I’ve got a few chats in now so I thought I’d mention this for new people thinking or unsure of teamspeak.
to quote missing;
YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO SPEAK JAPANESE OR SPEAK THROUGH MICROPHONE – WE HAVE TEXT CHAT ALONG WITH VOICE CHAT.
What can you do? Benevolent users such as primal and bbvoncrumb can assist you with your technical problems with anki and stuff, give personal advice about how to study japanese, and help out with some questions that you have about grammar. But to be completely honest, we usually talk about other stuff thats not related to japanese at all (which is alright of course!). Thats where tubatime comes in and rants about how he can change politics for the better and how i brainwashed him into mass purchasing idol merchandise. 洗脳成功!
You can type if you want or use a mic, or just hang out and lurk around to see what it’s all about. A mic will really help unless you type fast, but you will get people responding to your comment no matter when you post it. We’re here to chat, right? ^^
Don’t worry about not knowing much Japanese and getting lost or not ‘fitting in’. They do talk about it if someone asks or wants advice, or missing wants to chat in Japanese… lol, but that’s not all that is being talked about and it can change if someone asks something else. Also, don’t take the conversations to heart. There is a lot of joking and messing around if you start getting in on the usual politics or religion but the usual stuff is just normal conversations you’d see anywhere ( yes, it’s PG :P ).
It’s a chat room and they chat about anything with the bonus of having people who have studied Japanese and were once in the situation that you’re currently in now. They can give you advice or just chat. Everyone should check it out even if it’s only just to see what it is about. The best times seem to be 9(ish)pm EST until anywhere to 5am EST but people can be found online all day. Check it out and if no one is online check back that night or just yell at missing for being AFK until he responds, hehe.
January 6, 2012 at 2:11 pm #23908Hello textfugers!
I have been a teamspeak resident for awhile (when I am not off having epic adventures and forgetting to log in). I would like to second what ロブ said about it not being a super intense Japanese atmosphere. When I was new I was afraid of visiting the teamspeak, because thought were just going to practice Japanese and talk about study sources (and that I would feel bad for being a newb). People do practice typing and saying things, but that is not the only thing going on. I am an English major, and I have a profound love of poetry, so I don’t mind helping people edit papers and talking about nerdy book stuff. I am also a girl, so I like talking about girly stuff ( I am basically saying it’s not a boys only club).
Tuba knows a lot about politics and the like, and he doesn’t mind talking to people about stuff (in a civil manner, of course). Missing is really really good at Japanese, and he also knows a lot about AKB (I am just giving examples).
I also know from experience that you may come in one day and feel awkward talking to one person, but then come in another day and realize you have a lot in common with them. I hope that anyone who comes in will give it a few chances to see if they like it, instead of just coming in once and getting discouraged.
So yeah, please come in. I will give you a sammich!
