I just signed up too. Really neat idea, I’m really hoping this will motivate me to work out more (and by more, I mean start hehe)!

    Thanks Sam!

    @Kane – I love Tensuke Market!! I live only 5 min from there :D

Akai Hana right next to it is a really nice restaurant too, although I haven’t been in awhile since it’s slightly on the expensive side. But there’s a little place to eat in Tensuke Market and their udon dishes are delicious! I highly recommend it.

EDIT: there also used to be a Japanese video game store right around the corner in that same complex that would import any game or movie you wanted, but i think they since have gone out of business :’(

EDIT 2: I should have known, Tensuke Market also has a pretty neat website! http://www.tensukemarket.com/

@ooh_a_robot- thanks for the encouragement, i really appreciate it! :) I guess I just feel like I can’t contribute much other than welcoming new people atm because everything in Japanese is still so new to me (with the exception of hiragana now).

I wish I could help people more with any questions or problems they have but obviously i’m no where near that stage so instead i just refer them to you guys ;)

I feel like the welcome wagon lol. I hope people don’t get upset that I post to a lot of new people….I just want to return the warm welcome I received when I first introduced myself, and because I’m really excited about learning Japanese! :D

    Hi Beth and welcome!

I just wanted to wish you a warm welcome from a fellow new learner. I’ve been studying for about 2 months now and am still in season 1, so don’t feel rushed to get through material. Slow and steady wins the race right?! ;p

if you ever get stuck or frustrated/unmotivated, don’t hesitate to try to talk it out with people here, I think you’ll find everyone is very nice and willing to help :)

Best of luck with your studies! :D

Hi Elle and welcome! And congrats on the long engagement even if you don’t have a date set :)

Having your fiancé knowing some Japanese must be such a blessing as well as having fellow friends learning. Hopefully they can all keep you motivated and make learning that much more enjoyable! I think you’ll find the grammatical differences quite interesting. I know that my English grammar skills Improved immensely once I understood French so I’m sure Japanese will have a similar effect (not affect right? I always screw that one up. Lol).

Anywho, just wanted to wish you a warm welcome and best of luck with your studies!! :)

    Hi kwag7 and welcome!!

I’m also in Ohio (originally from Canada but currently living in Ohio)! Whereabouts in Ohio are you if you don’t mind me asking? Im in Columbus and we finally got some snow lol ;)

And congrats on knowing all of hiragana!! You say you aren’t a smarty pants, but I think you should give yourself some more credit! That’s awesome! I’ve been studying for a couple months now and just recently feel like I know hiragana well enough to continue onward. Lol

Best of luck with your studies!! :D

    Hello and welcome!!

It can be really hard trying to teach yourself another language so don’t feel bad if/when you struggle because we all do :)

Also just curious, what apps do you have on you iPhone? I’m using Human Japanese and one simply called Hiragana and Katakana, which I love, but I’m always looking for different ones to keep me sharp ;)

Anywho, best of luck with your studies!! :D

Not to mention ‘les gros-mots’ sont complètement différents hahaha. Besides, les québécois could care less about grammar anyway eh?! ;P

I completely agree with you. Japanese has a different attraction like you said. Sorry, I read your post and was blown away by how similar your situation is to mine, hope you don’t mind my rambling lol ;)

Please keep in touch, id love to learn your thoughts on languages, especially since linguistics was my minor. Gros bisous! ;)

    Hi and welcome!

    I’m a real beginner too, such a beginner that I’m still in season 1. I’m a slow learner :(

But if and when you want to practice online please let me know (if you’re still interested of course)! I’m not quite ready for that yet either but I’d love to practice with someone who wouldn’t laugh at me for being a horrible noob lol.

Lol no Columbus isn’t too far, but still far enough eh? The weather is finally getting really chilly here, I’m pretty jealous of the nice weather you get most of the time!! (p.s. sorry, I was born and raised in Canada, the ‘eh’ is a hard habit to drop) ;)

    Hi Marina and welcome!

Woot another person who knows French! J’adore la langue française mais le japonais c’est aussi chouette n’est-ce pas?! (mon spécialisation à l’université était le français, il y a 8 ou 9 ans je pense que je l’étudie). Combien d’années étudies-tu le français?? ;)

Sorry, I’m slightly out of practice in my French grammar :/ Regardless, welcome and best of luck with your studies!! Gros bisous!!
