This mini pocket dictionary by Oxford works really well and gives the most common words in Hiragana/Katakana along with Kanji then it gives the English in the back as well and it also has common phrases. It is small enough to fit in your pocket and has a durable plastic cover. It is not very expensive either! Here is the link to amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Oxford%20Japanese%20Mini%20Dictionary
Since you are on season 6 you can start making your own audio and lists to add to your current list such as the Common Katakana Words list. I have been adding words to this deck like crazy from my Japanese mini dictionary for the last few weeks and I have been making my own audio for them which has helped to increase my vocabulary a bit. I have also created my own dates and months list as I know the kanji used for them.
I have downloaded the Anki version 2.o and so far it has been good. Most of the old features are still there but are accessed in a different way. The new version is much faster as it puts all decks in one file the the sync feature is really fast and only sync’s the cards that have changed and not the whole deck. One thing I like about the new version is it keeps all your like decks in order and is makes file naming easier to keep consistent instead of being jumbled all over the place. So far everything runs smooth and I haven’t found any glitches. I will just have to get re familiar where everything is at. All your old decks should import to the new version just make sure they are all downloaded onto your hard drive in the correct place.
Thanks for everyone’s reply and I feel like a dummy now and I remember in the earlier lessons that is how you allocate one noun to another is by using the の particle. I didn’t stop to think that つもり was a noun and I just looked it up in my dictionary. But the translation still kind of threw me though.
This happened to me and I remember what happened was my antivirus had removed all the files. Apparently my antivirus which is Webroot recognized Anki as a spyware program and removed it including all files. So what I had to do was allow the program as an accepted program under Webroot, then I had to reinstall Anki, then finally reinstall all decks, since it automatically quarantines and deletes any suspected spyware or virus programs. Hopefully this will help you out.
はじめまして!ようこそ、ハリーさん!It is kind of cool that you say you are from Perth, Australia because there is a certain youtube channel that I watch quite regularly and you may have heard of it, it is called the MickNFumi channel. He is also from the Perth area. If you haven’t check it out because he uploads all kind of vids from Japan and other parts of the world.
Odin Sphere for the Playstation 2 has the original score in Japanese that you can listen to while you play.
That is a good idea Devin I purchased a game called Odin Sphere for the PS2 game console which has the original Japanese score on it so as I play I listen also.
Holy cow that is long! I’m afraid at my current level that most of this is above my head. I can only read hiragana, katakana, and only a select few kanji.
I have found it to be fun and rewarding to correct posts on lang-8. I also talk to a number of people on there and have made a few friends. I not only correct blog posts but I also talk to directly to the writers themselves. :-)
Wee hee! I’ll check that out and see what is going on.
I feel as if I am lower intermediate. I went through all of textfugu and have started over going over everything again and I seem to be retaining at least 90% of what I learned earlier. This time through, I am going a bit slower than before and taking advantage of the updated lessons an extra Anki lists. I will be attending a university this fall and they have three courses in Japanese beginner, intermediate, and advanced. I will have a jump start on everyone else. Hopefully, I might be able to test out of the beginner stuff and jump right into the intermediate level. Thanks, Koichi and don’t worry I will still log on and use this service when I have the time. I need to find someone to talk to too, which will definitely help with my speaking. コウイチ先生、どうもありがとうございます!
Holy cow that guy has one heck of a past. I didn’t read everything but he sure is a dedicated hard worker. It looks like all his hard work is starting to pay off. We all could benefit from reading his biography.
