To be honest, that grind made me drop TextFugu (again) for quite a while. What eventually got me through it is me going “screw it” and I actually pushed on without memorizing all the new vocab, even when the lessons stressed learning it first. That lesson with all the nouny adverbs? I know maybe half right now, and I don’t care about memorizing the rest immediately. I’ll get to it eventually. With TextFugu, I’ve actually dropped a lot of things to keep it interesting. I’m using an outside source for learning kanji now (and I tried Wanikani, but hated it), and I’m basically just utilizing TextFugu for grammar lessons and some vocab at this point. Is it efficient? Probably not. Is it helping me get back into regular lessons and keeping me interested? You bet it is. Sometimes you have to do what works best for yourself. The main thing is to not burn yourself out, even if that means contradicting the lessons (something I had to learn the hard way).

Right now though, I’m right about to start Season 5, and I have a good handle on most of the verbs, the adjectives, and probably half the adverbs. I just keep chipping at it little by little on Anki between lessons.

Honestly, I’m really hoping that whenever we get EtoEto, it paces itself a bit better, but I might be done with TextFugu before that sees the light of day. Was hoping it’d come out before I got back into my Japanese lessons, but got tired of waiting for it.

Oddly enough, the NA version of Jak II (for PS2) has a Japanese language option, both for the voices and actual game text (menus, subtitles, and everything, if I remember correctly). I flipped it on a few times for laughs (because some of the Japanese voices are amusing), but it’s been a while since I’ve played it, so I’d forgotten about it til I saw this thread. Might not be the best thing for learning, but it’s something that can be switched to Japanese, and doesn’t involve region-cracking a PS2.

Just finished Season 2. Gonna start Season 3 after I finish marathoning through a J-drama I’m watching (Youkai Ningen Bem), and then get right back at it.

I’m surprised to see how many people already finished TF…I’m just hoping that once I’m done with what’s on here, that I can still manage studying on my own, because I am all sorts of terrible at self-study if I don’t have some sort of guide. I’m thinking I still have a way’s to go though, so I’m not gonna worry about that til I get to it.

I’ve decided to re-watch “Youkai Ningen Bem” again, the 2011 live-action drama version. It’s sooo goood. Special effects aren’t too bad, and considering I watch Kamen Rider too, I’ve seen much, much worse. It won a bunch of awards, and they’re releasing a movie this winter, so when they decided to re-air it I figured I’d re-watch it too.

Oddly enough, only reason I knew it existed in the first place and even tried it was because I follow KAT-TUN. One of the members, Kazuya Kamenashi, plays lead. The concept sounded weird, and I probably would have skipped it otherwise, but I ended up watching it and I’m glad I did.

Plus, since I’ve already seen it once, I can kinda ignore the subs and see how much of the Japanese I can pick out on my own, so I don’t feel like I’m shirking studying to watch it…although I guess it’s good to not just do the book-ish type studying all the time, gotta keep things fun, right?

    Thanks for the welcoming replies!

I’m really glad other people on here have at least heard of KAT-TUN…here’s hoping I can meet a fan who’s actively into it so I have someone else I can fangirl with XD
