You can search the forums through google, by adding ” site:http://www.textfugu.com/bb ” after your search string, eg: ” import deck anki 2 site:http://www.textfugu.com/bb ” :)

Yea, Anki 2 works that way. You *can* technically add the new cards to the old deck by clicking browse and “Change Deck”, but it is much easier (and even useful some times) to just drag and drop the newly imported deck on top of the old deck. That way the new deck will be considered a “sub-deck” of the old one, and when you study the original deck all sub-decks will be studied as well, but you can also choose to only study the sub-decks. I hope it makes sense :)

Another thing you can do: On the “decks screen” after you imported the deck, you can simply drag and drop the newly imported deck on top of another deck (eg. TextFugu Vocab) and it will be considered a “sub-deck” of this deck. You can then either study the TextFugu Vocab deck and it will make you go through the deck itself + all sub-decks, or you can study each sub-deck individually.

Mmh, yea… Then you should get a computer :P

I don’t have anything useful to offer as I mentioned before, but I hope you’ll find something :)

I don’t really have anything useful to upload, but if you want to make your own decks for AnkiDroid you should just make a normal Anki deck on your PC, sync it with your ankiweb.net (or beta.ankiweb.net if you’re using Anki 2) account, and then sync that with your AnkiDroid. This works really well for Anki 2 btw – automatically syncs media files as well (without having to set up Dropbox and all that).

Are you using Anki 1 or 2?

I upgraded to Anki2 as well, and I think it is a lot better. As Jeffrey I am not really an advanced user either, but I enjoy being able to easily sync with my smartphone (and it does indeed work very well!). I do not miss any features from Anki 1.2, but I like the new features:

When you import a deck into another deck you can get a list of the imported decks on your deck screen and choose to study only a specific “sub-deck”.
When you learn new cards you will get each new card at least 2 times the first time you go through them.
Syncing with other computers / devices is super easy. You just need to have an anki-web account and everything else handles itself.

So.. If you use some of the more advanced features of Anki 1.2 you should probably wait at least till Anki 2 is out of beta. If not, I would recommend switching now. :)

42 is from the book “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams (which has indeed been made into a movie). Long story short “42″ is the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything. Try googling “the answer to life the universe and everything” :-)

I can strongly recommend reading the book(s) by the way!

Nothing to do with wani-kani whatsoever; just thought I would share :P

Edit: Made link open in a new window.

Edit 2: Apparently that does not work. -.-

Thanks for sharing, Clement. I figured that would be the case, but it’s nice to hear from someone who is actually there (at the end of TF). I hope I’ll be able to continue to find motivation after I finish TF :)

Welcome and have fun. :) In my experience the vocab learning will come pretty easily if you just remember to do what Anki tells you to (do yourself a favour and use it every day or at least most days).

Anyway – hope you’ll have a good time on TF… And yea – have a look at Aikibujin’s thread. It’s nice to have someone to talk to and compare progress with when you’re studying on your own. :)

I got to the katakana words just when I was going on a trip to England, so I just synced Anki with my phone and brought it along. I think I went through about 20 new words each day and when I returned home I’d been through all of them without much effort… But I guess taking a trip to England every time you have to learn new vocab may be… impractical. ;)
