I was very active with my studying on this site when I had just started. I did the first two seasons in under a month. Nowadays, I’ve been lurking around much more than I did when I started, resulting to reading only a chapter or two a month. I gradually slowed down to this speed and I’d say it’s pretty natural (however, it could be my personality, who knows). This happens with most things I do.

I’d say to only slow down if you feel overworked. I’d say the motivation is the hardest piece to get past, because eventually it goes away when things stop feeling new.

About the forgetting thing, don’t worry about it. You probably won’t forget if you do anything Japanese-related everyday, it certainly will keep your memory fresh : P (I am currently on a 226 day studying streak)

I have a goal to try and get a lot of chapters done now that I have summer break and all time in the world (but video games are fun too lol), so it’s certainly a struggle to get the speed back up. I guess it has to do with me being pulled around a lot by friends and getting forced to play with them, since they’re on break too : P.

At what season are you? Do you only import the decks from TF or do you import additional decks (or make your own cards)?
    I think 246.6 sounds like a lot.
I have studied for a little more than a year now and I have 210 on a bad day.

I would also feel burnt out in my brain after going through so much anki each day.

I’m about to read the last chapter of Season 5. Only cards I’ve made are sentences that I take directly from the different chapters, since the normal sentences deck only lasts to about season 2 or something. However, these cards gets pushed back in queue pretty quickly (most of them are already 1+ month).

I have been a bit stuck the last few weeks and I have not made a lot of progress here on the Textfugu lessons. It’s starting to get tough now (with conjugation stuff especially). It’s harder to study nowadays than it used to be. I don’t know if it’s because I’m in some form of unmotivated state or if I’m trying too hard and exhausting myself. For the most part I only go through Anki daily these days.

I took a look at my statistics that Anki has generated and told me the following:

    Days Studied: 100% (193 / 193)
    Total: 47600 reviews
Average for days studied (amount): 246.6 reviews / day
Average for days studied (time): 33.2 minutes / day

Are these kind of stats overboard? Or are they average? I’m usually pretty tired once I’ve gotten through my Anki decks, making me feel unmotivated to study more for that day (which probably is the reason why I make less progress on Textfugu).

Hmm, I guess. Though it’s weird because if you listen to the audio it sounds like they actually pronounce the か. I don’t know what to believe anymore : (

Okay it’s not much in the grand scheme of things but it’s a thing and I’m really really freaking excited so I JUST LEARNED HOW TO READ HIRAGANA

    ALL OF THE CHARACTERS

    I DID IT

    EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I’m giving myself ice cream tomorrow. :3

    Great work, soldier. Hoo’raa!!!

    あなたに幸運を願って!

I got hiragana stickers on eBay. They work fine and don’t have any effect on my typing. For about $5 it’s worth a shot.

Did you buy any specific kind of stickers or just any will suffice? Does the stickers come with a layout of some sort so you know where to put each individual sticker?

in reply to: Where to buy a Japanese Keyboard? #44835

As far as I’m aware, typing in romaji (and converting) is pretty common in Japan, so it’s not like you’re getting a more “authentic” experience by using one with kana on the keys. Are you really going to be typing enough to warrant buying one? Just seems kinda unnecessary.

Perhaps but as stated previously, it’s something I’d like to try if so possible. Besides, I plan to replace my current keyboard anyway, as its durability is expiring more or less and I plan on getting fancy lighting keys :P

I can’t find it but if it is good enough for you, I’ve seen hiragana stickers you can buy and stick on your keyboard. The best solution I can come up with.

I’ve been considering those too but I can only find them on “suspicious sites”. They don’t seem to be that common, plus I’m worried that stickers will affect my current keyboard too much, in the sense of how it feels to press them. If it feels weird or uncomfortable, then they’re probably not for me…

WOOP! Just completed season 4 and it feels great! I have been using Textfugu since September, the same time I moved to Japan. Textfugu has proven to be a fantastic recourse in helping me to understand to a limited extent what is going on around me in this slightly crazy country. I just wanted to write this to say a huge thank you to the “baby throwing construction worker” Koichi and his spectacular team for working so hard to help self learners like myself. Now it’s time to jump into season five and try and crawl my way out of this “dip” :)

Wait you… MOVED TO JAPAN?! I want to move to Japan too… ;-; I’m jealous now

I read somewhere that if the adjective goes before the noun, you include a な in between the two… or is that only with not い-adjectives?

in reply to: Need help with worksheet #44262

I don’t know what that is, so probably not.

Besides, I’m using pen and paper when doing these worksheets…

    What do I do

@thisiskyle Worked amazingly well! Perfect! Thanks a lot man! :D

in reply to: Guide to Using Anki 2 with TextFugu #44098

Can someone explain to me how I get back my “leeched” cards?! Sometimes when I suck at learning a word, the program says they’re a leech and then I never see them again. How do I return them back into my decks? Will they know where to go since I removed all the sub-decks and put them into the master deck?
